Distilled

A story of fire, patience, and four generations of stubborn belief.

Glen Alchemist Estate

A distillery carved
from the Highland stone.

Our estate sits at 340 metres above sea level, where the air carries the scent of heather and the water comes from a spring that has never once run dry. We didn't choose this place. This place chose us.

The original distillery buildings — granite, oak-beamed, built to last centuries — remain the heart of everything we do. We have modernised what must be modernised and preserved everything that cannot be replaced.

Four Generations

The Long Road

1887

The First Flame

Alistair MacAllan builds a copper pot still on the banks of the River Livet. Using barley grown on his own land and water drawn from a spring known only to his family, he produces his first single malt in a stone barn that still stands today.

1923

The Silent Years

Prohibition closes American export markets. Rather than sell his casks at a loss, Alistair's son Rory seals the cellar. When it reopens twelve years later, the whiskies inside are unlike anything Scotland has ever tasted.

1961

The Grand Cru

Third-generation distiller Catriona MacAllan creates the first Alchemist Grand Cru, a blended malt of three Speyside expressions aged eighteen years. It wins the International Spirits Challenge and changes the family's fortunes forever.

1998

The Rebirth

After a decade of near-ruin, Duncan MacAllan refurbishes the original still house, restores the stone cellars, and launches the modern Alchemist range with a philosophy as old as the distillery itself: never rush a single drop.

Today

The Living Legacy

The fourth generation tends to over two thousand casks sleeping in our three cellar houses. Each year, our master distiller walks the rows alone, listening for the ones that are ready.

The Craft

How We Work

Malting

01

Malting

Our barley is floor-malted on site — a labour-intensive tradition abandoned by most distilleries decades ago. We refuse to give it up.

Distillation

02

Distillation

Two copper pot stills, hand-beaten by the same family of coppersmiths for four generations. Shape is destiny — ours produces a spirit of exceptional weight and character.

Maturation

03

Maturation

Every cask is selected personally by our master distiller. First-fill American oak, Oloroso sherry butts, and rare Madeira pipes — each one chosen for a specific expression's future.

Bottling

04

Bottling

We bottle on-site. No chill-filtration. No caramel colouring. No compromise. What goes into the cask comes out of it — nothing added, nothing taken away.
